Brussels, 22 September 2026 – The second edition of the National Cyber Study 2026, conducted by KPMG Advisory in partnership with the Cyber Security Coalition and supported by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) and Agoria, demonstrates why Every Link Matters. The findings reveal that cybersecurity is no longer solely about protecting individual organisations. As supply chain dependencies, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and geopolitical tensions reshape the threat landscape, resilience increasingly depends on the strength of the wider ecosystem on which organisations rely.
Key Findings
Among the most notable findings of the 2026 study:
- 53% of organisations report that cyberattacks against them increased over the past twelve months.
- 18% experienced at least one successful cyberattack resulting in disruption or damage.
- 57% reported that a supplier or service provider had suffered, or was suspected of having suffered, a cyber incident. Supply chain risk has consequently risen sharply in the cyber-risk ranking.
- 93% believe artificial intelligence makes cyberattacks easier to execute, while 62% expect AI to strengthen defensive capabilities in the coming year.
- 54% believe their organisation could be influenced by online disinformation campaigns.
- Although many organisations have made significant progress in implementing NIS2 requirements, only a small minority consider their implementation fully complete.
According to the study, Belgium’s cybersecurity conversation has evolved significantly since the first edition. Compliance remains important, but organisations increasingly recognise that resilience depends on continuous testing, adaptation, collaboration and operational readiness. Trust has emerged as a strategic asset that organisations must actively protect.
Methodology
The National Cyber Study 2026 is a nationwide survey conducted by KPMG Advisory in partnership with the Cyber Security Coalition and supported by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium and Agoria. The survey was carried out between March and May 2026 among organisations of all sizes and sectors in Belgium. Results are based on aggregated and confidential responses and provide a representative snapshot of Belgium’s cybersecurity maturity, challenges and priorities in 2026.
Building Collective Resilience
The findings of the National Cyber Study 2026 reinforce a central message: cybersecurity can no longer be viewed as an isolated technical discipline. Organisations operate within highly interconnected digital ecosystems where vulnerabilities, disruptions and dependencies extend far beyond their own perimeter. Strengthening resilience therefore requires collaboration between public authorities, private organisations, academia and technology providers.
As Belgium continues to navigate a rapidly evolving threat landscape, the study provides an important evidence base for future policy decisions, investment priorities and collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing national cyber resilience.
